10 Uncommonly Used Filipino words; Definition and Example Sentences

According to linguistics, there are over 5,000 languages spoken around the world. Philippines is one of the countries blessed with 180 languages that are widely used from dialects and varieties that exist here. This assumption encompasses the various concepts of dialectal variation in language due to the different aspects of our lives as a Filipinos.

Nowadays, our languages are not often used because of new ages, some Filipinos are enjoy to speak different languages from other country than local. Sometimes, they are using of Taglish, Coñotations or any slang words. Most of them are not familiar with our languages especially our Filipino words that most of them are uncommonly used for a long period of time. Here’s are some of the Filipino words that you should know:

1. pinilakang- tabing- cinema; a movie theater where movies are shown for public entertainment Example: Si Coco Martin ay isang sikat na artista na aking napanood sa pinilakang- tabing.
2. kinaadman- a knowledge or wisdom
   Example: Habang lumalago ang aking kinaadman sa mga bagay- bagay ay lalo kong naramdaman ang kasiyahan ng mundong aking ginagalawan.
3. sukgisan- geometry; a branch of mathematics that deals with the measurements, properties, and relationship
   Example: Ang nais niyang matutunan sa paksa ngayon ay ang pagsasagot ng sukgisan.
4. dagitab- sparkle of flame; electricity
   Example: Halos apat na oras nang nawalan ng dagitab ang aming barangay dahil sa pag-aayos ng mga kable at poste ng Casureco III.
5. kabtol- switch; a device to turn electric current on and off or direct it’s flow
   Example: Pinindot niya ang kabtol ng ilaw sa kusina.
6. liknayan- physics; the study of energy and matter in space, time, and how they are related to each other
   Example: Ang paksang tinalakay namin ngayong araw ay tungkol sa liknayan.
7. pook- sapot- website; collection of web pages and related content that is identified by a common domain name and published on at least one web server
   Example: Ginamit ko ang pook- sapot sa paghahanap ng mga impormasyon na nakatala sa aking takdang aralin.
8. pahimakas- last farewell or last fancy way to say goodbye
   Example: Ang buong pamilya ay naghanda ng isang salu-salo para sa pahimakas ng kanilang anak.
9. tampalasan- scoundrel, wicked, perverse or destructive
   Example: Wala kang ibang alam na gawin kundi maging tampalasan na lamang.
10. sapantaha- a hunch or presumption
    Example: May sapantaha ako na mananalo ka sa darating na eleksiyon.
